Drive Safely Miami is a photographic project that will document all of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Miami-Dade County issued "Drive Safely" signs in in the county over the next two years. I've had this project on my mind for a couple of years now. I have often wondered when I've seen these signs about the person(s) that perished and those they left behind. The signs are sometimes decorated simply, some are given substantial attention with stuffed animals, flowing plants and photographic memorials, while others are bare or worn. There are stories of tragedy, hope, and survival behind every one of them. I'm expecting to surface some of those stories as as I publish photos and the loved ones of those who perished come forward with them. Hopefully, viewers will become more aware their driving then exercise restraint and due caution on the roadways of the Miami area so that more of these signs will not be needed.
I hope you find this blog and associated tracking map an engaging and thought provoking one.

Photo made on 9/11/2016, the 15th anniversary of a tragedy for 2,977 people, their families and friends. This sign also represents a tragedy for a fellow community member their family and friends. In 2015, 340 people perished on Miami-Dade County roadways.
